BREAKING: METS CALL UP MATT HARVEY

UPDATE - July 27, 2012 2:00 AM : Harvey pitched tonight for the first time, delivering on the promises of potential future top of the rotation hopes.  He effectively navigated a solid D-Backs lineup in a tough place to pitch (@ Arizona).  He recorded an excellent 11 strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.  The 11 Ks were a driving force in his relatively high pitch count - 106 pitches in the 5 1/3 innings.  A promising start from a young Mets pitcher (ala Bill Pulsipher ... I mean Jason Isringhausen ... I mean Tom Seaver  ... yea, that sounds better)

According to multiple sources, the Mets, after rumors of call ups for Saturday's start that never materialized, will be called up to Queens. Harvey's first start as a Met will be at Arizona on Thursday.

Harvey has a plus fastball and change up and is considered the second best pitching prospect in the Mets' system. Harvey was drafted 7th overall by the Mets in the 2010 MLB draft.

The Mets have struggled with player development over the last few years (FMart and Lastings Milledge to name a pair) after the successes of Wright and Reyes. A tandem of Harvey and top prospect, Zack Wheeler have a chance to carry the Mets for the next decade.
