As the Mets yawn through another playoff-less season (albeit in much less shocking fashion), they continue to lose the first 2 of a series and win the third game. This is the third straight time that has happened. Bottom line, the team has not won a series since late July and Met fans just need to remember that it is only one more awful month.
The Yanks are in a far different situation. With 28 games left, they are the only team with a win total in the 80s (they have 86) and need to play .500 ball through September to get to 100 wins - a fairly easy task.
Who would have thought that Aceves would have as many wins on September 3rd as AJ Burnett. It speaks to Burnett's recent struggles and the comeback abilities of the Yankees - Aceves is not that good.

Aceves has been lucky in more than a few of his wins. But given the mediocre performance of NYY starters -- ex Pettite in Aug -- a lot of the credit for NYY success needs to go to the relievers as well as the hitting.
