The fact that Joe Girardi did not pitch Phil Hughes tonight in the 8th is a joke. He has pitched in the last 2 games, but only a 3rd of an inning in each game and only 9 pitches combined.
Phil Coke is an inconsistent pitcher who doesn't belong in pressure situations!
In a Lester game, Girardi can't expect a lot of runs.
They kept showing Rivera in the pen tonight while Coke was pitching. Hughes looked super-pissed sitting in the pen with glove in hand.
What a joke! No excuse!

ReplyDeleteNot sure why Hughes was not called in -- he's had limited use lately -- as blogmaster noted -- being limited to 1/3 inning/game in the BRS series.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible he's experiencing arm fatigue, or some other reason he's being used sparingly.
Maybe it's not a "joke."
