Even though the Red Sox lineup has dominated Andy Pettitte historically, he has fared well thusfar. Incredibly, he has been able to miss a bunch of bats with his mediocre stuff.
From a mechanical perspective, it seems that both CC and Pettitte are hiding the ball very well and then finishing their pitches better recently.
When CC follows through on his fastball, he can paint the outside corner to a lefty, but it leaks over the plate when he pulls off. Pettitte's slider and cutter both have better bite when he finishes well. That, in addition to a 90+ fastball has allowed Pettitte to pitch well.
Lester, on the other hand, has been pretty dominant. His fastball has been supreme and he has been freezing guys with his off-speed pitch. The Yankees have done nothing as of yet.
Pettitte is really going to have to continue to keep the Sox under 2 runs for the Yankees to stay in the game.
One more thing: The ESPN crew talks way too much!!!
Yaros
Sox are not playing well at this point and NYY have been able to take advantage with good pitching and strong hitting.

Poor Pettitte just can't get a win no matter how well he pitches.
