Pressure Flop!

Joba certainly did not come up huge last night. In fact, with his utter lack of control (7 walks - the most he has ever given up in a game), Joba needed the assistance of John Smoltz to win his eighth game. However, Smoltz did come through. The guy is likely done after off-season surgery and rehab. He has given up a bunch of home runs this year and his WHIP is over 1.30 for the first time in 20 years!

Okay, so the Yanks won yesterday - and now, all of the sudden, Beckett must win tonight. The Red Sox are 3.5 games out and if Beckett loses, the Yankees can easily stretch the lead to 6.5 after Sunday's game.

Beckett typically comes up huge in these situations and Burnett has come up really small against the Sox this year.

Can Burnett pull this one out? With a huge crowd on his side, I expect Burnett to throw a gem. Can Beckett match? He has the stuff to do so, but the Yanks are on a roll right now. I see the Yankees winning this one 6-2.
