The Knicks' Worst Nightmare

First, something has to be said about Jerome James. Just a few years ago, he parlayed an above-average playoffs with the Sonics in '04-'05 into a ridiculous $30 million deal with the Knicks, courtesy of Isaiah Thomas. In his years with the Knicks, James averaged less than 10 minutes a game, and less than 3 points and 2 rebounds, while perfecting the art of the butt groove on the bench seats. Of course, yesterday, James blew out his achilles. Not playing. But practicing. This is the legacy of Isaiah Thomas.

But the Knicks' worst nightmare is that the Cleveland Cavaliers have a great chance to win the NBA title. If LeBron were to win a title in Cleveland, I think he would sign a long-term deal there and start the dynasty in Cleveland. And then LeBron would attract players to Cleveland to solidify a championship team. I just would find it hard to believe that LeBron would leave Cleveland if he won a title there. So I think Knicks fans should be rooting hard for the Cavs to fall short.

  1. i question whether any team in cleveland -- a nice city, but one with moderate income and housing prices relative to NY -- can compete with NY for a player who wants abig contract. i think LeBron falls into that catagory, so even with the cap, i think the knicks will prevail if cleveland is the competition.

  2. If the choice is between more championships anywhere versus coming to a Knicks team with no viable help, I think LeBron will take the titles. What I really don't understand about this whole thing is that with technology and the media the way it is today, a player doesn't need to be in NY or LA to become a 'global icon.' There is exposure no matter where you are.

  3. it might be better for the knicks to get two perrenial all stars esp. a legit big man(bosh) than to spend it all on lebron.
