Yankees Dreaming!

Now that the football season is officially over, let’s all turn to the important game—baseball – and to the team we all either love or love to hate.

Wouldn’t Michael Young make a dandy infielder for the Yankees at either shortstop or his original position, second base. He has demanded a trade rather than play third base for Texas. I can visualize Jeter making his transition to Centerfield, where his strong arm and fine fly chasing abilities suggest he should be finishing out his career. Since that position is currently available and the Brewers are not really likely to take Swisher for Cameron, it would be an excellent move for Cashman to make.

Of course, at second base, which Young has not said anything about, Young’s presence on the Yankees would free Cano for a trade to the Dodgers, possibly for Matt Kemp, a pretty good Centerfielder whose suspension for a brawl while playing on a laid back team suggests fire in the belly, which is more important perhaps than his .290 average and 18 home runs.

  1. "Wouldn't Michael Young make a dandy shortstop for the Yankees"?

    No. He wouldn't.

  2. I like this idea. Kemp is gonna be a 30/30 guy and has a cannon for an arm. He is also 2 years younger than Cano. Micheal Young is a gold glove infielder and a clutch hitter with power. I'm not sure about moving Jeter just yet. I'd probably put Young at 2b. The only question is what would the Yanks have to give up for Young. If it had to be a package containing either Phil Hughes or Jesus Montero, I would say no.

  3. Yeah because after 2008 we saw all how great Phil Hughes is. As long as phil hughes is on the yankees, yankee fans will talk about him as being better than sliced bread. What did John Niese have last year that Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy didnt? A win!

The yankees will never get anything for hughes because they will foolishly never trade him.

  5. Besides for the obvious questions of whether we have the resources (and want to spend them), there's this number: .346. That's Michael Young's career OBP, despite playing half his games at The Bandbox in Arlington. I'm not usually one to be concerned with home/road splits, but such a low OBP implies a lack of discipline, and when playing in a park where righties are at a disadvantage, that is bound to bite him in the ass. Take him out of Texas, and I don't believe he's anything more than a defensive specialist.

  6. The Kazmir trade wasn't nearly as bad IMO as the Jason Bay for Steve Reed trade. My uncle is a season ticket holder in TB and he can't stand Kazmir (5 innings, 100 pitches, very fragile - basically what concerened the Mets). Yes he has electric stuff, yes he's been an All Star, and yes that was a rediculously AWFUL trade. But b/c of Mets fans' anger, Kazmir is often made out to be better than he really is.

  7. "jeter's strong arm"?!! this is the guy who needs to jump into throws from deep in the hole to get them to first!! who wants to bet the only way he can hit the cutoff man from the wall is with a lollipop?

young at second isn't a bad idea, but jeter in center is just nuts.

  8. Young has agreed to play third for Texas.

That ends that part of the discussion.

As for Jeter's arm strength, is there any point debating with a blind person on such a question?

    Ari- find an ophthalmologist.
