The genius that is Rod Thorn may be getting his way again. The Portland Trailblazers have multiple chips to trade including the awful, but finally ending contract of Raef LaFrentz worth $12+ million. Also, there are 10 players on the team under 25.
This clearly seems like the team the Nets should deal with if at all possible because there are just so many pieces.
The main issue with such a deal is the fact that the Blazers' front office is often too scared to make a big deal.
Would Carter put them over the top? I say no because he would just take shots away from Brandon Roy and has never been a consistent winner during his career. But, if the Blazers think so, give us the pieces and take that contract!
The LaFrentz contract basically needs to be a part of the deal for money matching purposes. The other piece in the deal would be a young talent. I would choose Rudy Fernandez because he has great length for a shooting guard and a gorgeous jumper. Other possibilities are Nicolas Batum or Jerryd Bayless. Batum is young and a talent, but he is so skinny that he may not make it in the NBA. Bayless is a superb talent who will be a starting point guard sooner rather than later, but he is too small at 6'3" to play the 2 and the Nets have an all-star at the point.
