It appears that Oliver Perez is going to be a Met after all. In reality, this move may push the Mets into a essential even competition with the Phillies for top spot in the division.
Having 4 strong starters and a solidified bullpen is certainly a phenomenal foundation. The Mets do need certain offensive players to hit as well as they did last year for the team to have that kind of success (or get Manny).
Daniel Murphy, Fernando Tatis, Carlos Delgado and Ryan Church (pre-injury) MUST hit in the same fashion as they did last year (relatively unlikely) or else the Mets will not surpass the improved Phillies. Raul Ibanez is better than Pat Burrell and the added experience and confidence always helps.
Good luck Mets! Buy Manny!

Great move - considering what he wanted and what guys like burnett and lowe got - this is a great deal!
ReplyDeleteand i completelty agree abot manny - but i dont think its gunna happen
mets still need to give thier line-up a boost. i think abreu would cost less than manny, provide decent power, and make pitchers work.
ReplyDelete(btw i am a nyy guy and i want manny no where near the bronx.)
Abreu to the mets....i dunno - he just doesnt strike me as a winning player. the phillies got better AFTER trading him. I know he always puts up good numbers, but he's on the decline, and is an atrocious fielder. Plus we have enough lefty bats.
