The short answer is no! He only has 87 wins to his name and he has pitched in the majors for 10 years.
For an average of 8.7 wins a year, I would not give a guy close to $17 million a year. Additionally, because of the fact that Burnett gets injured on a regular bases, he only averages just over 21 starts a year. That means, on average, he will be making more than $500,000 a start!
Furthermore, is the guy going to be healthier when he is 36 than when he was 29? Of course not!

I like Burnett, but not for that much. I like him on the team, but I don't want to pay for him... he's just not worth it.
ReplyDeletewell i don't really think sabathia was worth 160 million. so apparantly they have money to burn. part of the reason Burnett got 82 million was due to market mechanics - not really value.

i think the cost for burnet is over 20m/yr as i expect he'll pitch for 3 1/2 yrs at most. his arm wont last till 37.
ReplyDeleteoveral i dont think he's a good value but the NYY are prepared to pay 20+m/yr for him if he can help in the next 2 to 3 yrs. other teams cant afford this (altho the braves may think they can)
Burnett is going to be trouble...The Red Sox fans are happy that the Yankees signed him and the Yankee fans are not happy at all...not good!
