Andy Pettitte pitched a gem for the Yankees 3rd straight 2-1 victory. It's interesting how the Yankees have been so streaky this year. It seems as though they just don't bother showing up for certain series and play phenomenally in others. Obviously, the series against the Red Sox, Angels and Nationals stand out, but there are other times as well when the pitching is dreadful and the hitters just swing away (other than Jeter of course).
The hitting has not been too plentiful over the 3 games, but, the pitching has been stellar.
One interesting note is that the Yankees are still continuing to pound home runs, even while only scoring 2 runs a game. Over the 3 games, the Yankees hit 5 solo shots!
Tomorrows' starters are Rich Hill (the former Cubs prospect who burned me in fantasy last year - not really, he was a late round flyer) with a 7+ ERA this year and Sergio Mitre - who is making his first start with the Yankees, but pitched a lot for Girardi in Florida.
I would not expect the scoring drought to continue considering the quality of pitchers.
A few notes about Mitre. He has a 5+ career ERA with a awful 10-23 record. He is 3-1 this year with a 2.40 ERA at AAA and was suspended for 50 games for juicing. He had Tommy John last year.
Good to see the Yankees trying to win with known steroid users (note the baseball purist cynicism!)
