Not Exactly Surprising...Ortiz/Manny RXN!

I was shocked about Manny the first time because he just seemed to much of an aloof guy who could care less to actually bother going to the effort of taking steroids. However, once I saw the true Manny, this result is expected.

Ortiz is certainly not as talented as Manny and is certainly the kind of player that is a rather obvious steroid user. This is certainly not the first time he has been accused and this is just the nail that sealed his stake in cheater's row.

Ortiz jumped onto the map as a 27 year old on the 2003 Red Sox. He had not done much as a youngster and the Twins essentially gave up on him. Over the next 5 seasons he finished in the top 5 in the MVP voting every year and has clearly fallen off dramatically over the last 2 years.

My only question is, did he just get away with doing steroids ever since the testing began? Was he on something not detectable that has become detectable over the past 2 years? Is he one HGH? Who knows, but he wasn't make the hall anyway.

  1. its hard to determine how these players wouldve performed w/o steroids. MLB needs to propose a standard to apply to the records of players during the steroid period -- allow into hall or not, with * or not (as per HA suggestion).

I think best approach is allow into Hall, along w Rose, but with a notation of steroid use and note that records are not comparable to others who performed w/o this assistance.

Similarly records should be kept separately for steroid users and for those w/o alleged steroid use.
