The Knicks were trying to set things up this off-season to sign LeBron next summer. Things have not worked out too well.
First, the team went after Jason Kidd and then Grant Hill.
The goal was to lure talent to New York in order to sign LeBron. Kidd expressly chose to go back to Dallas because he did not think the Knicks would land LeBron. Grant Hill also shied away from Knicks to re-up with the Suns.
Also, the salary cap was lowered by $1 million and that shrinks the amount the Knicks can spend beyond that of other - more talented - teams.
The one thing going for them is that the Knicks play in the biggest city in the country.
LeBron will be playing the Cleveland in all likelihood, but if he leaves, its going to be to play with a contender, not the Knicks.
I would make them a 60-1 long shot to land him, a even longer if they do not make the playoffs next year.
