This is why they pay him the big bucks. A complete game 3 hitter on 3 days rest is the epitome of "ace"hood. This was a do or die situation and the Mets delivered. Oliver Perez better show up tomorrow or his last start in the Mets will end with boos as he leaves after 4 and a third, 6 hits, 5 walks, and 5 earned. Don't blow it Ollie because Ben Sheets gave you a gift today by putting the Mets fate in their own hands.
Speaking of the Brewers, CC will try to put the pressure on the Mets to force a 1 game playoff on Monday.
Notes: The Twins need to get props for their impressive run. Whether they make the playoffs or not doesn't discount the fact that they have been successful despite losing Santana, Tori Hunter and Matt Garza this off-season. It is remarkable how this team constantly performs without a large payroll.
Best of luck to Mike Mussina tomorrow in attempting to get his 20th win!

Absolutely awesome job by Santana. His first start on 3 days' rest in 4 years, and he flat out dominates a good lineup like that in a game they had to have. Sucks for them they're gonna get knocked out tomorrow.
ReplyDeletesantana's a gr8 2nd half pitcher. we'll see who does worse tomorrow, and maybe monday, the mets or brew. the mets have a $57m (138m to 81m)salary advantage so it should not be a contest.
ReplyDeleteThank you Johan!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the Cubs don't care - they're pitching zambrano for a cuople inings and then the bullpen. We gotta take care of business ourselved and not rely on chicago.
Questionable move by Dale Sveum using Bush and Parra in middle relief for a couple innings. Who would milwaukee pitch on Monday? Gallardo on 3 days rest? Bring back Bush or Parra? I realize this is getting way ahead of things, jsut seems surprising that he pitched both those guys.
Rosario, a minor league team could beat any major league team on a given day.
ReplyDeleteSussman, I would not trust Bush if he had to get Little Leaguers out. I think anyone and everyone (including Ben Sheets on 1 day's rest) are options for the Brewers on Monday. Since they could care less about CC's arm (and rightly so) they may even throw him for an inning. But I have doubts it will get that far, I think Howry will blow any lead he is given in the 6th or 7th inning to the Brewers and the Mets will lose.
