That is a great point; however, the response applies to both the Mets and Cubs. Each team has an older pitcher who, based on the standards of "old-school managers", deserve a playoff start. Pedro will likely get a start in a division series (even though he doesn't deserve one) and Ryan Dempster will likely pitch ahead of the superior Rich Harden thanks to his long time service to the Cubs. Lou Pinella is super old-school and thus I am assuming he will throw "his guy" before putting in the ringer shipped in from Oakland.

I disagree with regards to Manuel especially. He's no longer playng church every day; castillo lost his starting job. He's not showing deference to veterans who aren't performing
ReplyDeleteI think Manuel is less "old-school" than Sweet Lou; however, do you think he has much choice when his boss is a Pedro Lover. Pedro is the king among the Dominican Princes in Omar Minaya's book. He loves Dominican players and Pedro is probably the greatest pitcher ever to come out of the country.

I hear what you're saying, but Omar's not dumb. He has to get the fact that Pelfrey and perez are just better now. gotta watch my favorite yankees fan (rudy) now.
