Carlos Delgado's face has appeared in the right hand box called "Top Batters" in the second half. Tonight is just another example of a monster performance in a big game. I'm getting more and more tempted to pick Delgado for MVP because of these ridiculously clutch performances.
On a broader note, the Mets won a huge game today because their starter pitched poorly and bullpen was able to pitch 5+ solid innings. The bullpen has been stellar of late, but I'd be weary as the pen could collapse at any moment.

I agree that Delgado has been amazing in the second half and deserves some MVP consideration, but I don't think he'll win it. The MVP should go to someone who has been consistently good all season. As much as Delgado has helped carry the Mets in the second half, he really pulled them down in the first.
ReplyDelete(Side note: this is vintage Delgado. Take a look at his career stats, and you'll notice he's a LOT better in the second half, year in and year out.)
i realize this is completely unrealistic, but given the play of manny ramirez since arriving in LA, is there any chance of him winning the NL MVP (or at least receiving serious consideration)?
ReplyDeleteafter all, at this point, his numbers speak for themselves (.396 avg, 14 HR, 40 RBI, 1.235 OPS in just 38 games). but beyond that, since his arrival, the dodgers have gone 21-17 since his arrival, and while that is just mildly better than mediocre, it has been sufficient to enable the dodgers to overtake arizona and open a solid lead, which is incredibly valuable.

well, clearly not, but it is an interesting thought! Manny's numbers are great but it is obvious that a pitcher's numbers can be starker than a hitter's over 50 games. A pitcher going 10-0 is far more impressive than anything below hitting .500 with 25 homers over that time.

I think that even if the voters would consider voting for a 2 month player with Manny's numbers, many would never vote him MVP when you consider the REASON he had to leave boston
