The logic is clearly there, an older guy who lived through the steroid era struggling to the point where people think he should be released (or retire). Then, out of nowhere, a "second half for the ages". However, such organizations are harsh and need to be investigated before any conclusion is made. No one can argue with the statistical evidence but who knows???

Perhaps Francessa should look at Delgado's career stats. He's always better in the second half. This year may be a little extreme, but stranger things have happened.
ReplyDeletething with delgado is he stilll can't bat, he's just always strong as an ox, so when he makes contact, it goes. so now he's getting lucky a little more often than he did in the beginning, but its hard to imagine that he's juicing
ReplyDeleteI think everyone has had that thought cross their mind....but for a respected talk show host like Mike to say that...not so cool
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, the words did not come across his lips, but it was clear what he meant. I think he approached it the way you, Sussman, think he should have (not saying it outright, but, clearly indicating his opinion).
ReplyDeleteAri, strong like ox doesn't equal the consistency Delgado has displayed in the second half!
Yaros
batting .260 isn't consistency, which is exactly what he's batted since he started putting up power numbers in late may. moreover, only july has brought a month with high slugging - basically, he has a lower ops than reyes. so i think strong as an ox and lucky seems to capture delgado perfectly.
ReplyDeleteone wud hope that the league's ramdom testing wud detect "juicers."
ReplyDeleteif not then the system needs to be revised to preserve the integrity of the game.
Ari, he has about as many RBIs as he has games played over the last 70 - that is consistent.
ReplyDeleteYaros
again - look at the last 10 just for a small sample: he has two multi hr games that cover 7 of the 10 rbi in those games, with 2 of the other 3 on a hr. the fact that he's hitting hrs is the only stat of note (unless you consider mets runners on base when he hits them to be a credit to him)
