The leader, the man, the stopper, the best goalie in hockey over the last decade plus is now out for 3 to 4 months after having elbow surgery.
I expect the Devils to still make the playoffs, but they have no shot at the division unless they make a big trade for a goalie.
Any ideas hockey mavens?

ReplyDeleteHe's NEVER been hurt before!
So ong as he's ready for the playoffs, winning the division is not important. in hockey the regular season is like the exhibition season -- most teams go to the next round.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Eddie.
ReplyDeleteThe Devils have been rumored to be pursuing some sort of trade, perhaps for Khabibulin or Roloson, but I don't think either of those guys will fare much better than Weekes.
See, Weekes is actually pretty good. It's just that he's not Brodeur. So the Devils downgrade a LOT, but they're not a lost team right now. They're just not a division contender anymore. They have to find a way to get into the playoffs, and hope Marty comes back at full strength-- then, with a rested Marty, they'll be a REAL playoff threat.
(The Devils may trade for a goalie anyway, just because they can't rely on Scott Clemmenson as Weekes' backup.)
