The Jets have had 2 defensive issues that have enabled Matt Cassell and the Patriot offense to get back into the game.
1) There has been very little pass rush (although Kris Jenkins just made an outstanding and very clutch one)!
2) The pass coverage has been spotty. Revis has played well as usual and Ty Law has been surprisingly useful. He is a bigger defensive back (5'11" and more that 200 lbs) and has been able to use his physicality against Randy Moss. Obviously Law could not take Moss (or Gaffney for that matter), but with Kerry Rhodes behind him, that physical presence helped the Jets.
On the other hand, Dwight Lowery has gotten beaten numerous times by Gaffney and others. He also dropped an easy interception. I know he is a rookie, but he should not be playing a clear role.

weakest part of the jets team is definitely their secondary, lets not kid ourselves.
ReplyDeletelowery was a fourth round pick because he ran a ridiculously slow 40 at the combine in addition to coming from a non-existent college. so basically, the surprise is that teams haven't abused him yet, not that the patriots abused him last night.
