To be honest, the core of this issue is the
attitude of Marbury. He is a noted 'coach killer' and D'Antoni (as well as Walsh) have no interest in hitting the road after one season. That is a major reason Marbury doesn't play. However, there are 2 mitigating factors that the Knicks can be blamed for. 1) Marbury should have been out prior to the start of the season. That would have allowed him to play a full season elsewhere and would not have kept the negativity around. They didn't buy him out during the summer and are paying the price for the blunder. 2) The only reason Marbury was asked to play is because of all the 'LeBron' trades the Knicks have recently made. If Crawford was still on the team then Marbury could continue to keep the bench cousy. But now that there is absolutely no one to score any points for the Knicks, they are asking Marbury to just jump in the game.
I personally think it is unfair to the employee to mess with his head like that. Tell him he will not be playing, but then using him when you are desperate. For a player who never has gotten big minutes that is no big deal, but for a guy with Marbury's skill level - he is expecting to play. However, the Knicks are writing his $22 million check for the season and have the right to play any mind game they want at more than 268,000 dollars a game!
I think Marbury will be out of town by next week. This has finally hit a boiling point!
