There was always the assumption that the Yankees would up the offer, but the opportunity to play for a team better than the Yankees, in a preferable location for similar money will aim CC west!
The bottom line is that the Yankees will up the ante as much as possible, but if I were in CC's shoes, I would recognize that my lifestyle is not going to be different (meaning grandpa CC will still be able to pay for CC Jr.'s son, CC the Third's college education while still having the ability to buy dinner) whether he has $140 million or $180 million.
Basically, there is more to life than 40 million meaningless dollars (they are meaningless when $140 million is guaranteed) and CC should play on the West Coast if it is a priority.
So goodbye to...
and say hello to...

The Yankees should be looking into plan B!

I find that most players choose the top $$ rather than the team where they would be most successful or where their lifesyle wud be best. there are some exceptions -- Chipper Jones is one. But most go after the big bucks. Ego tends to trump common sense most of the times and this is tru w atheletes too.
