Apparently having the game on the line allows this AAA hitter to make solid contact. He had his second game winning hit this year yesterday (first against Papelbon). I do question the Yankees thought process in bringing up Gardner (a below .200 hitter in place of Melky [who hits about .220]). Playing Betemit as first and DHing Giambi is probably the Yankees best lineup at the moment. It would have Damon in center/left, Nady in center/left and Abreu in right.
Note: Girardi needs to use all his pitchers before bringing Mo into a tie game. He has a different mindset, less confidence and is clearly far less effective.

it's clear that the nyy are focused on 09 -- even hank said so. they want to give gardner a shot to see what he can do if he plays regularly -- makes sense. in fact its time to bring up the rest og the better minor-leaguers.
ReplyDeleteGardner is not a top prospect. He has maxed out on potential. He has less talent than Melky, but you are correct that the kids should be brought up when the season is "over". However Mr. Tresh, that is not now!
