Tonight's Yankee lineup is clearly the most elite the team has put on the field all year. Talent-wise it is the best line up in baseball.
-Damon
-Jeter
-Abreu
-A-rod
-Giambi
-Nady
-Matsui (coming back tonight)
-Cano
-Pudge
The line up is deep and lefty righty balanced. If the team can stay healthy and even half of them begin to seriously click - then hey, you never know what could happen.
Notes:
Jeter seems to be beginning to heat up as his wrist has finally heeled. His batting average has gone up .014 to .295 in 4 games (each with at least 2 hits). He will surely end the season +.300!
Carl Pavano will likely pitch for the Yankees this weekend. The guy has always had lots of talent but is obviously oft-injured. He is a free agent after this year (with a club option that will in all likelihood not be picked up) and could earn upwards of $8-10 million per year for a couple of years if he pitches well the rest of this year. (I know it seems kind of pathetic that such a disappointment could make that much money - but it is a seller's market when it comes to Major League starting pitching (Carlos Silva got $11 million a year from the Mariners last year)!

Not sure the linup is solid defensively. Giambi is just ok at first. cano a bit slow at 2nd. his hitting hasnt been great the last 2 weeks. we'll see how matsui does at bat and running the bases.also pitching is still a problem, mainly b/c of injuries. still think best to look to next year and test some of the younsters.
ReplyDeleteyup. one heck of a lineup. nothing like a high scoring game to get my yankees jones on.
