The Yankees need Mike Mussina to win his start on Thursday. He will be pitching to keep the Yankees within some range of reaching the playoffs. Additionally, every start he makes gets him closer to making the Hall of Fame. A 20 win season is one of the few notes not on his resume - many anti-Moose analysts point to no 20 win seasons as a sign of Moose not being Hall worthy.
Note: Pettitte's start was awful as he continuously was in trouble and was unfortunately rather typical of his season. Granted the umpire had a small zone and some of the hits were on good pitches and were slow grounders to third. But cmon, 10 hits doesn't happen by accident!

classic big-game a-rod...0-5, 2 strikeouts, 2 double plays, 7 runners left on base. unacceptable for 27 million per year.
ReplyDeleteEven if Moose wins tomorrow, the Red Sox will need to have a 2007 Mets-esque collapse for the Yanks to make the playoffs.
