I don't know who the official scorer in Toronto is; however, the pathetic play that Johnny Damon made on a Marco Scutaro deep fly ball cost the Yankees the game. In the eighth inning with a man first, the ball was hit deep to Damon and he simply dropped it. I guess the scorer felt that the ball was deep that Scutaro deserved a hit on the play!
Darrell Rasner pitched a fantastic ball game (although I hold my breath when he pitches) and made 1 semi-bad pitch that Adam Lind hit a mile. Damon does not belong in center! He can't throw (for years now - remember why he lost the job to begin with)! He can no longer catch either (he dropped 2 balls tonight)!
A side point on Damon goes into extended slumps (he is now 1 for his last 21) and was a bad signing to begin with!
A.J. Burnett always pitches well against the Yankees and they had to play a nearly perfect game to win! A-rod and Giambi combined for 7 strikeouts (on the day A-rod said that he and Giambi need to start producing more) and Damon blew the game all by himself!

what happened to the "elite" yankee lineup? they left 13 on base. thats what lost the game. damon is a weak fielder but hes been a steady hitter all year.
ReplyDeleteThe guy had a relatively easy play in the field and blew it. The direct result was the loss. You are correct that they left that many on base. Remember though that A.J. Burnett was dominant.

Such a disappointing game, but you knew Rasner was gonna give up something. It was only a matter of time, we just got flat-out dominated by Burnett, except for Abreu who has good numbers against him. A-Rod, Giambi, and Damon were terrible though.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying not think about that play. It only makes me sick! At least Damon was disgusted by his play as well.
